Did you know that the regional mapping field office for Nokia maps is right here in Helena (office on Tucker Rd)? This office is responsible for the Nokia map in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Yep! maps.nokia.com is better because it was map here in Helena, Alabama.
They been in Helena for about 5 years now. They opened in Alabama in 2000 and used to be part of a company called NAVTEQ (you may see their mapping vehicles sitting the in the parking lot in the office buildings on Tucker, or driving around town) but they were bought by Nokia several years ago, and last year they officially merged with them. Their Field office is here, and the Head Quarter is with Nokia in Chicago. They have 6 people working here, and 2 of them are Helena residents, both living in Old Cahaba.
The regional field mapping operations is run out of Helena, where they perform local mapping projects in the area, respond to customer map feedback, and generally maintain the map content for the area. Besides Nokia maps, the other common places to find their map data is Bing, MapQuest, and most factory installed navigation systems likeGarmin. Pretty cool huh!!
Dance Et Cetera is starting their 13th year on Wednesday. They have been in Helena since 2000. Not only have they been the premier dance center in Central Alabama but they have 25 years of experience in their Staff. Dance Etcetera offers classes for all ages and in the areas Acrobats, Basic Dance, Ballet, Baton, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, and even Competition Teams. The Owner is Jennifer Hoff Friedman. Boy Scouts
As a follow-up to the Boy Scout Night on Thursday, on Tuesday the 4th at 6:30 pack 556 they will be having a new scout parent orientation at HUMC in the sanctuary and first to fifth grade boys are invited to attend and sign up for scouts. Similarly, pack 532 will meet next Thursday at HUMC at 6:30 for their orientation meeting.
