Helena City Council Meeting
All members were present and they voted unanimously to approve everything below:
  • Deputy Chief Tim Carter-Shelby County Law Enforcement-Mutual Aid Agreement: Several police agencies in Shelby County have a mutual agreement that if one is in trouble then the others will help at no charge.
  • Ordinance 818-12A-Annexation-Brad and Marcie Fulmer-4461 South Shades Crest Road-Parcel ID 12-6-13-0-000-007.001.

  • Amendment to Business License Ordinance 734-07-Section 3-Topic C (issuing fee that changes every 5 years)-If amended it should state:  “An issue fee shall be assessed on each license in the amount set forth by the State of Alabama Department of Revenue per Departmental Rule 810-8-5.15 as it pertains to Act 2006-586…”. This is a State requirement so there was little discussion except Katherine asked if it would be automatic in the future.  If you want to see the Alabama Revenue rule then: http://revenue.alabama.gov/rules/810-8-5-.15.pdf
  • Finally they announce that City Council Meetings would be the 1st and 3rd Monday starting in November 2012 and that the swearing ceremony for the new Mayor and Council would be November 5th at 6pm.
Farewell to the City of Helena Speech
After the City Council meeting, Mayor Sonny gave a short farewell address to the crowd. He thanked everyone for their support. He also wanted to thank all the employees for their hard work and praised them for their service. He remarked about how there was a low turnover rate and how many had worked for the city for 25 years.  He spoke about the national awards Helena had earned, and said they were won because of the people in Helena working together. He said that Mark Hall would do a good job for the city. Sonny felt that God had blessed him with his time and he felt God had something else planned for him. He said he wouldn't be going away and he would be down the road if his assistance was needed. He received a standing ovation from the packed crowd.
